Ever since grade nine Mr. Thiara has wanted to be a teacher. He would take kindergarten students up to the computers and try and teach them, even though they would end up playing computer games he still tried. After 13 years of teaching he has lots experience.

Mr. Thiara has taught in Saskatchewan, Trochu, and Strathmore and has seen it all. Kids have purposely broken lab equipment, and even hid behind doors and in cupboards while substitutes were there.  But he knows none of his current students would be so immature.  He has done crazy experiments including a burnout in front of the principal’s office, yes, a burnout. The principal came out to yell as the tires skidded and Mr. Thiara explained it was all part of the scientific process.

Those kinds of things are Mr.Thiara’s favorite parts of science. But he truly loves everything about science. Mr.Thiara enjoys showing crazy Bill Nye videos and the much anticipated, or dreaded, frog dissection. When he went to school he barely got to do any labs so Mr. Thiara has made it his “quest” to do as many labs as he can, this being another favorite part of science.

Mr. Thiara loves to spend time with his wife and 2 kids.  Let’s just say he hasn’t seen a movie rated over PG in a long time.  He also likes to take them to Calaway Park.  Mr. Thiara also loves to restore cars, including his favorite, 1969 Dodge Charger.

Mr. Thiara likes to keep busy so when he’s not teaching or parenting you can find him spending time on home improvements, as well, his family owns a Petro-Cananda just outside of Banff that can always use his help. It is a very successful business considering every time we’re there it’s packed with cars.  Obviously he is one of the busiest teachers around.

So to sum it all up, Mr. Thiara is a great guy who has some great stories up his sleeve. You just need to take the time to listen and you’ll find out for yourself.
