Interview: Cody Nabseth 9F  Written by: Tim Hopwood 9E

When you first meet Mr. Motley, you soon realize he is a funny guy. But it’s when you get into a class with him that you find he’s a fun teacher as well. He said his favorite part of teaching Language Arts is interacting with the students. He likes it even better when he sees the reactions of the kids when explaining new things, be it horror or understanding. I asked him about his favorite food, he replied,
“Ham and scalloped potatoes, of course.”

And to drink with that?
Just plain old black coffee would do me fine.

Then I asked him about his hobbies, and after a quick second or two, he said,
“Well, I use to collect stamps…” then quickly added, “I read a lot too.”

Now, if you talk to any of Mr. Motley’s friends, they’ll say that he really likes talking about his kids, so I decided to ask him about them.
“I have four kids, Joel is about 20 and is taking Chemistry at the University of Saskatchewan, Bethany is 16 and she attends Strathmore High School, Cosmin is thirteen and, actually, comes to this school. And my youngest is Ema who is, 9 years old.”

Not only does he have kids, he has pets too. All of which he loves very much, by the way.
“I have a cat and a dog. Levi, which is a Yorkshire Terrier Poodle mix, is really tiny. My cat’s named Tessa and she is about 11 years old.”

Here we delve into his past a bit. “I used to live on a farm near Acme. Then I lived at the Red Deer College, and in Edmonton for a couple years, now I live in Strathmore.”

He’s been teaching for 27 years, and before that, he was a field worker in a gas plant, a gas pumper in Lake Louise, and he worked for the Edmonton Journal.

My final question was,
What is your favorite car?
“My old 1975, bright Lime Green Dodge Charger.”

Could anybody pick a better choice? I think not!
So the next time you see him ask him about his kids, or Tessa, or even that awesome car he used to have… you’re sure to have a laugh.
