Mrs. Collier is one of the librarians at Crowther Memorial. Mrs. Collier is a really nice person at the desk and she really likes to get to know the students here.

Mrs. Collier grew up in Medicine Hat, Alberta.  But now lives on a farm north of Strathmore.  I then asked her about her family and she told me, “My husband, Dave and I have a son and a daughter.  Their names are Dan, and Kari.”  I then asked her if she had any pets and she said “I have 2 quarter horses, one is called Jewel and the other is Bonnie. I also have a very old cat named, Miss Kitty.”

When Mrs. Collier was younger she said she “wanted to go into accounting and computers. Back then computers didn’t have screens.”

Mrs. Collier has been at Crowther Memorial for 3 years now, and she worked at Brentwood for 10 years before that.  Now, seeing how she spends her entire day surrounded by books, I asked her what some of her favorite books were. She told me she enjoys non fiction books about travel, cooking and how to do books.

I assumed she did more than read in her spare time, so I asked her how she spends her spare time.  Mrs. Collier said, “I like to go camping with my family in the mountains, getting together with family and friends, and hiking if I get the chance.”  It turns out that these outdoor activities provide both stress relief and amusement.  One of Mrs. Collier’s funniest memories is her husband fishing on the Bow River.  She re-told the story for me here, “My husband was fishing on the Bow River by an irrigation pump when all of a sudden the transformer by the pump exploded!  My husband dropped his rod and ran for his life.” After telling this story she just laughed really hard thinking about the flashback.  Mrs. Collier’s favorite sports are cutting and fishing. She especially likes to fish for trout.

When she’s not out enjoying any of her other favorite activities, Mrs. Collier enjoys watching a little TV.  Her favorite shows are Gray’s Anatomy, ER, and CSI.

To finish off the interview, I asked her what she would do if she had a million dollars.  She told me, “I would like to build a house, and travel a lot.”

Mrs. Collier is a woman with many sides, but there is one thing she never gets tired of, kids who say “Please” and “Thank you”.  So, give it a shot the next time you’re in getting a book.
