Writing Steps


Step 1 - Write the first draft of your story

  • Use the ideas from your concept map to write the first draft of your story in your writing journal. Convert the writing from your journal into a word document using a word processing program. Submit your first draft to the teacher's drop box.

Step 2 - Self-edit your story

  • Use the editing questions to self-edit your first draft and make the necessary changes to your story. Title this draft Version 2 -Self edited and submit this version to the teacher's drop box in the folder titled Version 2.

Step 3 - Peer Edit Stories

  • Meet in your editing teams ( teams of three - one period per story)
    Refer to the editing questions provided. Read through each story with your team and make changes using a different colour font and/or highlighting tool. Save this peer edited version of your story as Version 3 - Peer edited and submit it to the teacher's drop box.

Step 4 - Parent Edit

  • Print a copy of your story and/or email a copy of your story to your parents (guardians) for them to edit using the guide questions provided. Make the necessary revisions to your story and save it as Version 4 - Parent edited. Submit this to the teacher along with your parent's comments and suggestions.
