Mischief Maker - By Nicole

There once was a boy named Eagle Eye. Eagle Eye had hair as black as the night and eyes as green as grass. When Eagle Eye was young he would watch the people in his village use their power. He had always wondered when he would get his power. He asked his father over and over again when he would be able to get his power. His father told him that his time would come. The only bad thing was that Eagle Eye had always been an impatient child. He and his friends would talk about how bad they wanted their power and would plan how they would use it.

As the days went on, something happened that Eagle Eye had always feared. All of his friends had told him that they had just got their power. At that moment, it felt like everyone in Eagle Eye’s village was standing around him and laughing at him. The reason he felt that way was because now everyone in his village had their power except for him. He was so furious and mad at the world. All the hatred in him drove him to become a troublemaker. He thought this was his way of getting back at the world, since he didn’t get his power too.

Eagle Eye made life harder on everyone. He would set traps out on people and steal their things and let their horses out of their pens. He thought it was so funny when the people couldn’t find their things or catch their horses, because they looked like unsure squirrels. Then one day, Eagle Eye wasn’t so sneaky and got caught and was punished; but do you think that stopped him? Eagle Eye kept on with his bad behavior and was no closer to getting his power; but he didn’t care! Eagle Eye just continued with his whole scheme and thought it was so much fun.
When Eagle Eye would see people heading out to hunt, he would ask if he could go because he wanted to learn how to hunt like the good hunters. It was the exact opposite though; he just wanted to scare away the animals to make the hunters angry. He succeeded in making them angry too. When they would go to punish him, he would always say it was an accident and he didn’t mean to do it. It usually worked.

One day, Eagle Eye grabbed a pail and went to fill it up with water from the river. When he got back, he went to go and dump the water on the firewood, so that it wouldn’t burn that well and it would be really smokey. That’s when he heard footsteps near him and dumped the water on the ground so that he wouldn’t get caught. Luckily, to Eagle Eye’s relief, it was just the footsteps of a horse.

That night, the Great Spirit that gave everyone his or her power, decided that Eagle Eye’s trouble making had gone too far. That’s when the sky turned all grey and the wind howled. This was the sign of the Great Spirit. So, with that sign, the Great Spirit came down from the sky and walked up to the trouble maker’s tipi. The Great Spirit used his power to get Eagle Eye awake and out of the tipi because he didn’t want the whole village to know he was near. As Eagle Eye walked out of the tipi, the Great Spirit took human form and grabbed Eagle Eye. Eagle Eye was very startled because he had never seen this person before. There was a certain something about this person that made Eagle Eye realize that it must be the Great Spirit. Then the Great Spirit spoke with a soft voice and asked Eagle Eye why he had been so bad. Eagle Eye didn’t answer and the Great Spirit told him that his power was soon coming, but Eagle Eye could only get it if he changed his ways. With that, the Great Spirit disappeared into the wind.

The next morning, Eagle Eye thought he had just had a dream, but he remembered something had actually happened. Eagle Eye really wanted to get his power and decided to turn over a new leaf. First, Eagle Eye apologized to everyone in the village and asked to have their forgiveness. They all forgave him. He helped everyone out and never had a bad attitude about it. All of a sudden, Eagle Eye felt very weird and asked his father what it was. His father told him that it was a sign that his power was coming. Eagle Eye was so happy that he had finally got his power. His power was to be able to turn into any kind of animal he wanted to. If Eagle Eye had seen someone in need of help, he would use his power to help them. From then on, Eagle Eye used his power only for good and never for bad, because he remembered the wise words of the Great Spirit who brought peace to his heart and goodness to his mind.
