Track and Field

The School/County track meet was a huge success this year. It was well organized and we got through 2 track meets in one day. Now zones are coming up and lots of kids from our school are participating in it. This year it is at the Foothills Athletic park in Calgary.

For our school the Zones track meet is the end of the road for our athletes. The provincial track meet is at the U of A campus this year. It is used to help select members of the national team so the level of the athletes is very high. But over the years Alberta has been able to pick out some people to join the national and even Olympic team. Award winners like Adam Kunkel reside and train in Alberta. I personally think that for people of extraordinary skill should get a chance to be possibly thrown into the provincial bracket for their age group. The experience alone is completely worth it.

Overall I think that the school track meet went very, very well this year and thank you to all the organizers, timers, and people that helped out in other ways.
