Moving on to High School

Carleen S. - 9E Journalism

The year for grade nines isn’t as “fun” as it does seem. Don’t get me wrong, it is tons of fun, but we have a lot of worries and difficulties pressed upon us. There’s the worry of moving on into the high school. Having to start over new with all of the older kids. Having not one class you stick with, but a whole bunch of different classes. Some people have best friends who are in grade 8, and are scared to leave them behind. They also have to start thinking about colleges and where they want to go in their lives, and taking the right courses in high school to get there. There is a lot of pressure on the grade nines. More than you think. It’s not even just the teachers either. It’s their parents, friends, and the rest of their family.

Grade nine, is probably the best and the worst school year. You have to be on top of your homework in order to get into the good high school classes. You have to pay attention in class, study for tests, start looking at what you do want to succeed in your life, and you have to start looking at colleges. But then there is the fact of you being top of the school, having tons of fun with your friends, the dances, the fights, the dating. Just everything in grade nine, pretty much decides where you go in the future. Sometimes you think, oh one homework assignment won’t affect anything at all. But then you get into the habit of not handing in homework and not doing it, it affects your mark big time. And by the end of the year, you could fail. This would totally mess up your life, make you feel bad, and talk about getting into trouble with your parents.

People might tell you, oh the work is so hard in grade nine, you’re going to fail and stuff. It’s not true, at all. If you did well in grade eight, you’re going to think grade nine is a piece of cake.  Of course, for us grade nines; the fear is the same for next year. “Oh no is the work gonna be hard?” You never know until you get there. Then you’ll find out weather it is hard or not. You just have to put in your all, and try your hardest. Because if you truly want something, you would work your butt off to actually get it. Instead of doing nothing, actually try.

So, next time you start worrying about moving on into the high school, thinking about what you want to do or be when you grow up. Just think positive and live the rest of the year up.
