| What
is AISI? |
| AISI stands for
Alberta Initiative for School Improvement and was established in 2000
by several educational stakeholders including Alberta Learning. All school authorities have
access to AISI funds by writing project proposals and submitting them to Alberta Learning for review. Projects
that are accepted are funded for three years. The first cycle began in the Fall of 2000 and the second cycle
in the Fall of 2003. |
| What
types of projects are approved? |
| Projects must
be based on current research as well as identified school need. For
example, a school that has lower than average reading scores may do research to determine the
most effective reading intervention strategies and may develop a project based on those strategies. Projects must
also include a plan to measure whether or not the goals are being met and must demonstrate improved student learning
over each of the three years. |
| How much
money is provided to schools? |
| Each school division
is eligible to receive $123.00 per registered student each year. Thus
if a school division had 1,000 students they would be eligible to receive $123,000 dollars
per year. This money is in addition to the basic educational grants and can only be used to support AISI projects. |
| Is the
funding guaranteed to be continued after the cycle ends in
2006? |
| Yes, A.I.S.I. funding has been renewed for another cycle for 2006-2007, 2007-2008 & 2008-2009 |
